ASSESSING THE COMMENTS MADE BY THE MANAGERS OF THREE SELECTED HOSPITALS LOCATED IN BORDER AREAS CONCERNING REGIONAL CRISIS IN 2008

Abstract

 Introduction: Unexpected accidents and calamities are uncontrollable events, which always occur in different corners of the world such as Iran. Hence, MILITARY HOSPITALS of the border regions as the most important military medical centers of the world, which offer medical services to probable injured people in crises, should have proper and cohesive programs to combat crises in all dimensions. The comments made by managers of three military BORDER HOSPITALS in relation with regional crises.Methods: The research is of descriptive type and conducted in 2008. The data was collected through using a standard questionnaire whose reliability and validity was approved. The data was analyzed through using descriptive statistical methods (frequency distribution table, mean, etc.). Findings: The findings indicated that 95.2% of the managers were male and with average managerial experience of 10.3 years. Sixty-five percent of the managers had attended crisis and hospital management courses and 52.6% of them were aware of their regions crises. Riot and earthquake crisis with equal probability of 76.2% occurred more than other crises or were most probable from their viewpoint. According to 50% of the managers of hospitals under survey, there are short term and long-term plans in 52.6% and 47.7% of the hospitals, respectively to.Conclusion: Generally speaking, the managers’ comments indicated that more than half of the managers knew crises very well; however, could not respond to the crises properly. Therefore, with respect to the strong probability of occurrence of crises such as earthquake, riot and disorder in the under survey regions, it is necessary to design full-scale programs to promote the potential of hospitals to deal with crises, especially the above-mentioned crises.
