Abstract

Introduction: Regarding the increasing prevalence of heart diseases and despite the positive impact of Quran-based interventions in primary studies, the impact of these interventions in Cardiovascular fields has not been shown through a comprehensive study in order to be applied as a complementary treatment in usual care. Therefore, the review of Quran-based clinical trials in the field of cardiology was aim of this study. Methods: This Narrative Review was conducted during three stages of searching in databases, selecting related studies, and extracting data and descriptive analysis of data in 2018. Searching in databases such as Pubmed, Scopus, Web of science, Embase, and Cochrane library and Farsi language databases was performed by keywords such as Heart and Quran and their synonyms in English and Farsi Language without any language and time limitation in 12 April. 2018. Studies with content similarity to title reviewed, clinical trial study design, and Quran/ Quran-based intervention as study intervention were included to review process. Results: Out of 4391 retrieved articles, title and abstract of 2829 articles were assessed for inclusion criteria. Finally, full-text of 13 articles which were representative of 10 studies were reviewed. Reducing before and after anxiety of surgery, reducing the severity of surgical pain, and reducing the physiological response to stress in patients undergoing open heart surgery, reducing anxiety in patients with coronary artery disease, myocardial infarction, and undergoing coronary angiography, improving the quality of life among patients with heart failure and better control of blood pressure were such effects of Quran-based interventions used in the Cardiovascular fields. Conclusions: Considering the positive effects of Quran-based interventions in some Cardiovascular fields, it is recommended to be used as a safe, non-invasive and low-cost intervention along with medical treatment.
