Abstract

The present research, en titled A comparative study of the political participation of male and female university students in Tehran has been conducted using the descriptive-comparative method, and the necessary information has been collected through fieldwork by means of a questionnaire compiled by the researcher (comprising 88 package questions in the context of 43 major questions). The questionnaires have been equally distributed among 1041 students attending the five universities of Tehran, Shahid Beheshti, Al-Zahra (s), Imam Sadeq (a. s.) and Sharif University of Technology. Then, the statistical data as analyzed with the help of SPSS software, using chi -square and double-variable and triple-variable analyses according to the type and degree of correlation between dependent and independent variables. The result if the present research lends further proof to the international findings in relation to the political enthusiasm of women in comparison with men, and shows that women, whether studying in co-ed or single-sex universities show less political enthusiasm in comparison with men, and their political activities are less dynamic than men. Women"s political insight takes shape under the influence of the, family more than men. Women pay attention to political issues later than men. The result of this research also shows that parents occupation and their educational status has a meaningful and positive statistical relationship with the degree of political enthusiasm of their daughters. On the other hand, variables such as marriage and educational status show no meaningful difference in connection with the political enthusiasm of the two sample groups.
