Abstract

AbstractBackground and aim: Due to the growth of the global dimensions of drug trafficking, the destructive effects of this crime on Iran's economy and security, and the neglect of drug trafficking cases hidden in some of the money laundering issues raised in the Economic Security Police, have caused the writing of the present study with the aim of developing a model for the criminalization of drug trafficking through money laundering cases.Method: The present paper was applied research which was conducted with a qualitative approach in terms of purpose. The statistical population consisted of the money laundering cases which were under investigation by the Tehran Economic Security Police, and these cases were purposefully selected until the thirteenth case until the research reached to the theoretical and thematic saturation. Data were analyzed using MAXQDA software.Results: Nine categories included as, information sources, technical measures, defendants and related parties, officers, crime detection, departments and organizations, laws, banking network, banking operations, and finally, after selective coding, they were divided into organizational and non-organizational dimensions.Conclusion: The proposed model in 2 dimensions, 9 components and 126 indicators can be used as a guide for the economic security police and the anti-narcotics police until its implementation and the development of a model for detecting drug trafficking crime via tracking money laundering cases in the fight against those offences which may provide an interactive and managerial approach between the above-mentioned two polices (economic security and the fight against narcotics). Hopefully by benefiting from the executive measures designed in the current model, practitioners may move from the path of crime detection in the fight against money laundering to the detection of drug trafficking and vice versa.
