Abstract

FERDOWSI's Shahanme is an invaluable and Precious Treasure in Persian literature. Extensive research has been carried out in the fields of its language and context. It can be a new and plausible question to ask as to which genre the Shahname belongs and what formal and content based features there are and to what genre those features belong. Ferdousi's repeated and explicit reference to the narrative and STORY- like nature of the Shahname can open up a vista leading to the consideration of STORY- telling and its elements. Although the foundation and the frame work of the stories in the Shahname are given to FERDOWSI in advance. There are features pertaining to modern stories on the basis of which the Shahanme can be regarded as the most coherent collection of stories including such features as character development, consideration of the principle of cause and effect among the events, creation of appropriate scenes and atmosphere, various types of dialogue each suitable for a particular context various CONFLICTs and use of other such elements of STORYtelling. The element of CONFLICT which is associated with the PLOT is widely tangible and deeply harmonious in the stories of the Shahname. In this article this element of CONFLICT is studied in the STORY of Siavash.
