Abstract

The aim of this research was to compare the five personality components (neuroticism, extraversion, openness, agreeableness & conscientiousness) among patients with MAJOR DEPRESSION disorder (MDD) and obsessive–compulsive disorder (OCD) with healthy individuals. The research method was ex post facto and the statistical population consisted of two groups of MDD and OCD patients and NORMAL INDIVIDUALS in Tbriz.50 MDD patients and 50 OCD patients were selected by convenient sampling method among the patients that were referred to psychiatric clinics and consulting centers of Tabriz. The control group with 50 people was selected from students and staff in Tabriz University of Medical Sciences. The research instruments were Beck Depression Inventory (BDI-II Beck et al., 2000), Maudsley Obsessive-Compulsive Inventory (MOCI, Rochman & Hodjson), and Five Personality Factors Questionnare, Openness (NEO-FFI). Findings revealed significant differences in neuroticism and extraversion between MDD and healthy groups as well as OCD and healthy groups, in agreeableness between MDD and healthy groups as well as between MDD and OCD, and in conscientiousness between MDD and OCD as well as MDD and healthy groups (P<0.01).
