Abstract

The aim of this study was to determine the effect of GROUP BEHAVIORAL METHODS training on SOCIAL ADJUSTMENT of CHILDREN AND ADOLESCENTS with epilepsy. For this purpose, from the statistical population in this research (66 CHILDREN AND ADOLESCENTS referred to the Noor Clinic of Isfahan city from the beginning of June to August, 0.5) thirty people (Thirteen boys and seventeen girls) were selected on the basis of age similarity (12-18 years old), school (regular versus special), and place of life (rural versus urban) and assigned into experimental and control groups (15 people in each). Since due to the limitation of statistical population the researder was not able to select randomly, she used semi-experiencnd design. Two instruments, including californai Personality Test (Social Adjustment Subscale) and the Demographic Questionnaire were administered to the participants. The reliability of SOCIAL ADJUSTMENT questionnaire in terms of Alpha Cronbach was 0.797. On the basis of research design for the two groups with pre-test and post-test the independent variable was GROUP BEHAVIORAL METHODS training and the dependent variable was SOCIAL ADJUSTMENT (social roles, social skills, anti-social interests, family relationships, school relationships, and social relationships). To analyze the data, covariance was used (MANCOVA). The results showed that there was no significant difference between the experimental and control groups on the post-test by controlling the pre-test on any subscale and the total scale of SOCIAL ADJUSTMENT (P>0.05). But the results showed, there was a significant difference between experimental and control groups on the post-test by controlling the age, duration disease, ok of symptoms, frequency of seizures, education, father's education, mother's education and educational average in the total scale of SOCIAL ADJUSTMENT (F=6.032, p<0.05) and in the subscales of social roles (F=7.150, p<0.05) and school relationships (F=4.872, p<0.05).
