Abstract

This research under the title of "Comparative Study of MENTAL HEALTH of DIVORCED WOMEN and WIDOWED WOMEN under the Coverage of the Charity Committee of Imam Khomeini Aid of Tehran" was conducted to achieve the research objective that is to find out about the MENTAL HEALTH of the DIVORCED WOMEN and WIDOWED WOMEN under the coverage of the Charity Comiteh of Imam Khomeini Aid of Tehran and to compare and study the possible differences between their MENTAL HEALTH upon reviewing various explanations of the issue. Considering the nature of the comparative research, using the standard questionnaire at this research, the level of grades of the mental situation, physical situation and MENTAL HEALTH among the members of the divorced group were not meaningfully different. No meaningful difference was noticed between the MENTAL HEALTH of the DIVORCED WOMEN and WIDOWED WOMEN and the two groups were of the same level as far as their MENTAL HEALTH was concerned. Meanwhile the MENTAL HEALTH and physical situation of the widowed and DIVORCED WOMEN was at an ordinary and modest level. No meaningful difference was found between the MENTAL HEALTH of the women who have lower financial independence and the women who have higher financial independence. No difference was found either between the MENTAL HEALTH of the groups who enjoy different accommodation facilities. Finally the highest difference was found between the MENTAL HEALTH of the women whose children follow their views better and the ones whose children do not follow their views well. The positive effects of the Charity Committee of Aid and its supportive and supervisory role was found to have been quite effective in this research and it was pointed out that the lack of difference between the two groups is possibly due to the common impact of the absence of spouse on the women because according to some psychological theories, being divorced from one's spouse is similar to when the spouse has been lost because of the absence.
