Abstract

Work engagement is defined as a positive and pleasant state of mind associated with work. The purpose of this correlational ex-post facto study was to predict TEACHERS' WORK ENGAGEMENT on the basis of HEXACO'S PERSONALITY DIMENSIONS. A sample of 280 high school TEACHERS (142 females and 138 males) teaching in Ardebil province was drawn through multistage cluster sampling method in the school year 2011-2012. In order to collect data a use was made of HEXACO'S PERSONALITY DIMENSIONS questionnaire (60 items) and the Utrecht WORK ENGAGEMENT questionnaire (17 items). The data were analyzed using regression models and independent t-test, The results suggested that WORK ENGAGEMENT prediction model based on TEACHERS' personality traits were significant. Openness, conscientiousness, agreeableness, extroversion and humility-honesty had direct influence on the WORK ENGAGEMENT. Yet, the effect of emotionality on WORK ENGAGEMENT was not significant. It was also indicated that women had more WORK ENGAGEMENT than men.
