Abstract

To do a thorough research into the Sassanid literary history, researchers should not limit themselves to those few texts in the Pahlavi language that have survived the Sassanid or the closely preceding/proceeding periods. Without a shadow of a doubt, one of the most important resources in this regard is the Arabic literature of the Abbasid period. A study of the literature of this period familiarizes us with various Sassanid literature genres and their qualities. Moreover, a close analysis enables us to gain access to Arabic translations of invaluable Sassanid works. By means of discussing the deep and direct influence of Sassanid cultural, scientific and literary works on Arabic literature, and by means of introducing relevant outstanding ARABIC SOURCES, this article seeks to introduce ways of discovering the literary history of the SASSANID PERIOD through ARABIC SOURCES.
