Abstract

The present study aimed to compare the pharmacotherapy and EYE MOVEMENT DESENSITIZATION REPROCESSING in decreasing the symptoms of OBSESSIVE-COMPULSIVE DISORDER; therefore, 30 patients diagnosed with OBSESSIVE-COMPULSIVE DISORDER were selected and randomly assigned to two experimental and control groups and tested with regard to the symptoms and severity of obsession and compulsion. While the control group was exclusively treated with drug therapy, the experimental group was trained to use EYE MOVEMENT DESENSITIZATION REPROCESSING in addition to pharmacotherapy whilst engaged in compulsive hoarding. Results indicated that EYE MOVEMENT DESENSITIZATION REPROCESSING is effective in decreasing the symptoms of OBSESSIVE-COMPULSIVE DISORDER in the experimental group compared to the control group. It was also concluded that severity showed further decrease compared to the symptoms.
