DETEMINATION OF HEAVY METAL (CD, HG, PB AND ZN) LEVELS IN MUSCLE TISSUES OF INDIAN WHITE SHRIMP (PENAEUS INDICUS) CULTURED IN GOMISHAN REGION (GOLESTAN PROVINCE), KOLAHI REGION (HORMOZGAN PROVINCE) AND CASPIAN SEASHRIMP (PALAEMON ELEGANS)

Abstract

 The concentration of Cd, Hg, Pb and Zn were determined in muscle tissues of Indian White SHRIMP (Penaeus indicus) CULTURED in Gomishan region (Golestan Province) and Kolahi region (Hormozgan Province) and CASPIAN SEA SHRIMP (Palamon elegans). The results showed that between the four elements that were studied, Zn had the highest and Hg the lowest concentrations in the samples.Zinc had higher levels in CULTURED SHRIMPs whereas the level of the remaining three elements (Cd, Hg and Pb) were higher in the CASPIAN SEA SHRIMP.The levels in PALAEMON ELEGANS were 2.28, 0.040, 7.19 and 39.8 mg/kg for Cd, Hg, Pb and Zn respectively. The levels of Cd, Hg, Pb and Zn in PENAEUS INDICUS in ponds of SHRIMP culture 1 and 2 and the SHRIMP culture in reseach centre pond in Gomishan region were (0.01, 0.01, 0.010and 67.6mg/kg), (0.011, 0.01, 0.014 and 63.0 mg/kg) and (0.014, 0.01, 0.01 and 64.0 mg/kg) respectively.The levels in CULTURED PENAEUS INDICUS in Kolahi region were also 0.012, 0.012, 0.01 and 70.5 mg/kg respectively. In comparison, the CULTURED SHRIMPs had higher levels of Zn and lower levels of Hg and Cd Compared to CASPIAN SEA SHRIMP. The levels of Zn in CULTURED SHRIMPs were also higher than Zn levels reported in literature, which can be due to the food concentrates used which were fortified with micronutrients including Zn.
