Title

RISK ASSESSMENT OF CADMIUM DUE TO CONSUMPTION OF (BARBUS GRYPUS) OF ARVAND RIVER

Abstract

 Cadmium is one of the most toxic heavy metal which can enter the human body mainly through consumption of contaminated seafood with CADMIUM. In this study, the human health risk due to consumption of BARBUS GRYPUS in the ARVAND RIVER, were evaluated by measuring the concentration of CADMIUM in muscle samples using Atomic absorbtion. A total of 30 fresh fish were collected from 6 station of ARVAND RIVER in Khuzestan province. The average concentration of CADMIUM in BARBUS GRYPUS muscle was 0.85 mg/g of fresh weight (2.94 mg/g dry weight) which was less than the allowable amount for human consumption determined by the international organizations such as WHO and FAO. HQ Index was below 1 (0.36). Therefore, the consumption of the BARBUS GRYPUS is not a serious threat to the consumer’s health and a consumption permitted rate of 82 g/day is recommended.
