Abstract

Hydrological and geomorphological characteristics of surface flow are important in arid regions. Flash FLOOD and temporary channels are two important characteristics of these characteristics.Most population centers are located on pediments, alluvial fans, thick sediment formations and alluvial plains. Therefore, they are usually exposed to destructive FLOODs from mountainous areas. ZAVAREh town is located near Ardestan city in Isfahan Province with the population of 7704 and located in Ardestan plain which is usually exposed to FLOODs moving into Daghsorkh low land. The city is exposed to many FLOOD events due to it climatic and geographical special location in arid and semi arid regions and the mountainous upland regions. In this study, and due to different FLOOD ways crossing the city from 1316 Km2 basin, the basin was divided into 11 subbasins from which the peak flow is 300 m3/s and 20-year return period FLOOD is 140 m3/s Thus, according to comprehensive urban management, it is necessary to study the system of water ways to drain upland FLOOD away from the city. This was done considering the morphometery properties of the basin and safety programs such as building EMBANKMENT and WATERSHED management of upland basins for FLOOD magnitude reduction.
