Abstract

Coronary vessel grafting can improve the left ventricular function. In this study the effect of coronary vessel grafting has been evaluated on the left ventricular function in the post-surgery period in all of the patients and in especial subgroups according to the presence of diabetes, ejection fraction (EF) before slirgery, type and number of grafts, and pumping time. For this purpose, 60 hospitalized patients were studied. For them echocardiography was performed before and after surgery (after one week (n=46 and after the second month (n=IS) (EF and LVEDd were measured by the Sompson method in M mode) and data were collected. For analysis of data, Paired Hest and Student's t-test was used. The results showed that EF reduced non-significantly 1.217.8% This reduction was 2.6±17.8% in the first week (P<0.06). Some of the patients with an EF less than 45% showed higher left ventricular performance than others (P<0.001). Patients with EF less than 35% before surgery, showed a reduction of 12±12.2% in first week and an increase of 8±10.3% in second month and in patients with EF greater than 50%, there was a reduction of 10.84±13% and an increase of 3.57±10% in second month. In this regard, the number of grafts, pumping time, apd the existence of diabetes did not have any significant effect on the performance of left ventricle. In addition, EF showed a reduction of 8.6±13% in first week (P<0.02) comparing data before and after surgery in those patients not having thoracic artery grafting. Meanwhile, in patients with no sign of LMT involvement, the left ventricular performance increased (9.3±1.5%) significantly (P=0.04). It can be concluded that in patients with a low EF and involvement of LMT, CABG operation can increase EF and in those not receiving LIMA, EF decreases after surgery.
