Abstract

Background and Aim: One of the most prevalent problems in dental IMPLANT PLACEMENT is the existence of NARROW EDENTULOUS RIDGE. Therefore, the aim of this study was to evaluate the short term clinical and radiographic parameters after implantation in narrow ridges using the EXPANDER DRILLS in referred patients to a private office in Tehran in 1387.Materials and Methods: In this descriptive study, 15 implants were placed in the edentulous ridge of 8 patients. (Bone width < 6mm). To increase the width of the ridge, the expansion drill (BTI Spain Company) with 50 rpm and irrigation was used. When needed a graft and membrane were placed. The amount of bone loss and mobility of implants were evaluated with periotest after 4 months.Results: A total of 15 implants were placed in 8 patients (mean age: 49.7±14). Following the healing period was passed for all cases, no radiolucencie were found around the fixtures and no pain or infection was reported. The amount of bone resorption at the crest area was reported to be 0.2±0.4 mm. The mean of PTV was -2.5±0.9.Conclusion: Using the expander drill is an appropriate method for increasing the Buccolingual width of the ridge and it is recommended for atrophic ridges.
