Abstract

Background: PTCA is a common therapy for coronary artery disease. Most of the times, it would not promote the survival, but is achieved solely for symptom improvement and promoting the quality of life. PTCA-related ACUTE COMPLICATIONS depend on different factors such as age, sex, diabetes mellitus, heart failure, number of affected vessels, and type-C lesions. Materials and methods: 200 patients had entered this descriptive study. All the patients with clinical and angiographical indication for PTCA have been studied. Complications were classified as major (death, emergent CABG, Q-wave MI and RePTCA) and minor (non-Q-wave MI, vascular complications, ARF, temponade, ventricular arrhythmia, acute pulmonary edema, CV A and hemorrhage or hematoma required blood transfusion). Results: PTCA-related complications were reported in 6% of the patients. The most frequent complications were non-Q-wave MI in 2%, Q-wave MI in 1.5%, emergent CABG, RePTCA and blood transfusion each in 0.5%. Other complications were not noted. Conclusion: The studied population had acceptable rate of ACUTE COMPLICATIONS, therefore, PT CA can be successfully performed in affected individuals. Meanwhile, type-C complex lesions are more frequently associated with ACUTE COMPLICATIONS.
