Abstract

BODY Image is a new concept that is recently used in scientific researches. It is defined as the one’s impression and image about her own BODY which is formed in her own mind. This image could be very important as it has a vital role in self satisfaction.The aim of this study is to find the effective factors on” BODY image” among middle class young girls and women in Tehran society. In recent years it’s observed that concerns toward BODY image has increased as a result of some ADVERTISEMENTS and tendencies in pop and fashion MEDIA. We studied the relation between BODY Image and SOCIAL COMPARISON by use of “Social Comparison Theory”. The sample of this research was 300 girl and woman chosen from sport clubs, BEAUTY salons and skin care centers in Tehran. The research method was survey and gathering data by questionnaires. The results show that:• Respondents have a positive BODY image about themselves. There is a statistical relation between satisfaction and comparing with others.• Peer groups have positive effect on comparing with others and tendency toward making change in BODY.• Respondents’ interest in MEDIA ADVERTISEMENTS and watching the images of models and actors and actresses, have a direct and strong relation with the factor of comparing with others. • There is a direct and strong relation between self confidence and BODY satisfaction.• Encouraging from family members of respondents to caring of their BODY, causes the level of their BODY satisfaction to decrease.
