Title

SURVEY OF ANTIBACTERIAL AND ANTIFUNGAL IMPACT OF ESSENTIAL OIL OF ARTEMISIA KERMANENSIS

Pages

  32-39

Abstract

Essential oil has many applications in food industry. And have antimicrobial activity on different types of microorganisms. The plants of ARTEMISIA KERMANENSIS were gathered of heights 1800-2000 m of Faryab which located of Iran in Oct 2011. ESSENTIAL OIL of this plant was extracted with an outcome of 1.76% w/w, by hydro distillation method and then was analyzed by gas chromatography coupled with mass spectroscopy technique (GC-MS technique).41 structures of ESSENTIAL OIL were identified which some structures have a high percent are including: 1, 8- Cineole (26.93%), Camphor (16.97%), alpha-Thujone (7.52%), Borneol (7.47%), alpha-Terpineol (5.77%). ANTIBACTERIAL and ANTIFUNGAL effect of this ESSENTIAL OIL were assessed by minimal inhibition concentration agar dilution method which the results are including: Staphylococcus aureus (4mg/ml), Salmonella typhi (32mg/ml), Escherichia coli (32mg/ml), Candida albicans (8mg/ml), Aspergillus niger (4 mg/ml). The results show, proper antimicrobial feature of ESSENTIAL OIL is in full adaptation with the percent of oxygenated trepenoids (70.60%).
