Abstract

 Human settlements, especially cities, have a complex semantic Hierarchy. Some neighborhoods and urban areas have positive meanings and some have negative meanings. Over time, the network of meanings have taken place in the social sphere of the city as a result of various events, processes and activities. Understanding its formation process requires experimental studies. These meanings guide the spatial behavior of people in the city. Women and children avoid being in black and male-only places. Young people enter places where they can experience more excitement. The rich are more inclined towards well-known places with facilities. The elderly tend to places with suitable urban furniture. These meanings work for citizens like signs of prohibited and permitted entry, slow movement, stop and travel. Jafarabad is the largest marginal neighborhood of Kermanshah. In the past five decades, various meanings such as hard work, violence, lawlessness, fearlessness, dynamism, etc. have been formed around it. In any case, an intertwined network of meanings has been built around this neighborhood, and to understand it, we need a historical investigation to identify the various historical moments in which these meanings were formed
