Title

Identification and Prioritization of Methods for Revealing Latent Fingerprint Traces on Corpses for Use in Police Investigations (Case Study: Qazvin Province)

Abstract

 Background and Objective:  Given the importance and effective role of physical evidence, it is essential for crime scene investigators to receive the necessary training in revealing traces left from crimes. Therefore, the aim of this study is to identify and prioritize methods for revealing invisible fingerprint traces on corpses for use in police investigations within the Qazvin Province. Methodology:  The necessary information was gathered through library documents, and the methods were prioritized using the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) by distributing multi-criteria questionnaires among a statistical population of forty experts from Qazvin Province, utilizing the SuperDecisions software. Findings:  According to the findings of this study, three methods—magnetic powder, transfer lifting, and cyanoacrylate fuming—are identified as high-efficiency methods for revealing fingerprint traces on corpses, with no clear superiority of one method over the others. Conclusion:  The prioritization is as follows: 1) Magnetic powder method, 2) Laser method, 3) Paper machine method, 4) Cyanoacrylate fuming and fluorescent powder method, 5) Iodine and silver plate transfer method. Based on this prioritization, tools, equipment, and training for experts can be prepared accordingly.
