Abstract

Background and objectives: The institutions such as Trusted neighborhood councils can strengthen a two-way interaction with the people's trust and play an effective role in maintaining and improving the security of neighborhoods and engaging with larger organizations, including the police. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to investigate the role of the Trusted neighborhood council in promoting Social security and assessing the performance of the council in the security dimension. Methodology: A simple random sampling method was employed for the sampling and the sample size was calculated using Cochran's formula. Considering the population of 860, 000 people in the region and the presence of 9 local districts, the sample size was estimated at 384. For collecting data, a researcher-made questionnaire was employed that includes 25 questions, which examines the three dimensions of the Trusted neighborhood council, the performance of law enforcement and awareness of the rules. The statistical statistics (mean standard deviation and range) and inferential statistics including one-sample t-test were used for data analysis. Findings: Among the three components studied, the component of awareness of the rules has the most important and influential effect, and the law enforcement performance and, finally, the component of the Trusted neighborhood council's performance are at the subsequent importance rank. Conclusion: The performance of the Trusted neighborhood council has the least effect in this regard due to the problems that exist in its structure and the unfamiliarity of many people. It seems that the judiciary and the Ministry of the Interior can highlight this role more and make this institution more effective in this regard by training and communicating with the executive organizations.
