Abstract

Background and objectives: Identity, especially National identity, is a broad concept and a multidimensional phenomenon, including social, historical, religious, cultural, political, etc., which, in general, is the connecting factor of the nation. This phenomenon is an indicator in identifying and introducing individuals and responding to the natural needs of individuals who can undergo major changes. The basis of this study is examining the impact of cyberspace, such as the quantity and quality of students' use of the Internet and cyberspace on their national and religious identities, and their correlation assessment. Methodology: In terms of its nature and objectives this study is of an applied research type and in terms of methodology it is considered as a survey and descriptive-analytic study. Field study and a researcher-made questionnaire were employed for data collection. The statistical population consisted of 200 students of the Islamic Azad University, Science and Research Branch. The reliability of the questionnaire was also examined through Cronbach's alpha test. Also, in the conceptual model of Iranian National identity, Religious identity has been taken into accounts due to its connection with Iranian society and internal security of Iran. Findings and Results: The results of the data analysis in the hypothesis testing indicate that various uses of cyberspace have the greatest impact on the social dimension of security. It also has the greatest impact on cognitive and religious aspects of cyberspace that can be a warning and pivotal threat to the main dimensions of identity, i. e., the whole of National identity. In fact, the type, extent and manner of using cyberspace have been influential on the components of the homeland security and national and Religious identity dimensions
