Abstract

Persian transitive verbs act differently in terms of the appearance of "ra" with their object (Tabibzade, 1385). In this paper, the author is to answer the question whether or not there is any relationship between the different behavior of transitive verbs and their ASPECT as a semantic feature. For this purpose, forty Persian transitive verbs have been listed and classified according to Vendler (1957, 1967) and Rothstein (2004) and using classification ASPECT. Furthermore, the different behavior of these verbs in terms of the appearance of "ra" and whether it is related to their ASPECT based classification is studied. The result of this research confirmed the relationship, and showed the object of ACCOMPLISHMENT, ACHIEVEMENT and ACTIVITY verbs can be used with "ra" or without it, but the object of STATE verbs necessarily must be used with "ra". So the different behavior of transitive verbs in terms of the appearance of "ra" with their object can be explained according to their ASPECT.
