THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE AND ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT AMONG STUDENTS OF A MILITARY UNIVERSITY

Abstract

 Introduction: Current psychological issues showed that EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE effects on success of persons. The main goal of the research is assign relationship between EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE and ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT among students of A Military UNIVERSITY.Method: This research is a descriptive - correlation research. The target population of the study comprised all students of A Military UNIVERSITY. The sample consisted of 250 persons who selected by Stratified random Sampling method. The tool used for collecting the data is EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE questionnaire (Schering). Experts confirmed the content validity of the tool and its reliability was determined 0.76 Data analyze was perform by SPSS software.Results: The results of the research showed: 1) students assessed EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE themselves in relatively high level.2) There was a positive and meaningful relationship between EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE and all components of that with ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT.3) ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT can be predicted by self-awareness, self-motivation, self– control and social skills.Discussion: EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE is a good predictor of students' ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT. Therefore, promoting of EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE may raise ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT. The findings of this research is similar with previous research finding, e.g. Midgely and Kaplan (2002), Boise (2002), Stonkmir (2002), Poters (2010), Patrick and colleagues (2004), Mansouri (1380) and Zare (1380)) are consistent.
