THE EFFECT OF ONE PERIOD OF EXERCISING ON MALE UNIVERSITY STUDENTS’ STRESS LEVEL

Abstract

 This study sought to investigate the effect of one period of EXERCISING on male university students’ STRESS level. 30 MALE STUDENTS of Islamic Azad University, Zanjan Branch studying within 1389-90 academic year were selected randomly to be studied. The subjects were assigned randomly in two equal groups of 15 (control and experimental0. To measure the STRESS level, PSI Questionnaire was used in pre and post tests. After collecting pre-test data and explaining EXERCISING practices, the experimental group practiced jogging for 8 weeks, each week 3 30-minute sessions with 65% to 75% excessive heart beat rate. Descriptive statistics was used to describe the subjects’ personal traits and STRESS level in pre and post tests. To compare the data of the two groups, independent t-test and to compare the data of each group paired t-test (p<0.05) were used. Results indicated that there was no significant difference between personal traits and STRESS level within experimental and control groups in pre-test indicating the homogeneity of subjects in the two groups. There was significant difference between the experimental group’s STRESS level in pre and post test stages indicating the effectiveness of one period of EXERCISING in reducing the STRESS level. There was no significant change in the control’s STRESS level in pre and post test stages. The present study indicated, in accord to the previous findings, the reducing effect of the EXERCISING period on the STRESS level of MALE STUDENTS. I t can be suggested that to reduce STRESS level sports EXERCISING can be used due to its effectiveness and lack of negative side effects infrequently seen in medication.
