Title

EFFECT LOCAL HEATING ON SEVERITY PAIN CASUDED BY INTERAVENOUS CANNULATION IN PATIENT WITH OVERWEIGHT

Pages

  349-356

Abstract

Background & Aims: The most common reaction is patient pain during veniopuncture. Some studies have shown that LOCAL HEATING effect, but the effect on OVERWEIGHT patients who have more fat tissue has not been. This study aimed to determine the effect LOCAL HEATING on severity pain casuded by INTERAVENOUS CANNULATION in patient with OVERWEIGHT.Materials & Methods: This randomized clinical trial was done on 70 patients with OVERWEIGHT, aged 18-60 years and hospitalized in internal department of Imam Reza (AS) hospital in Mashhad. They met inclusion criteria including the need for venipuncture. Subjects allocated randomly in two groups of experimental and control. For experimental group, local dry heat of 39.5 applied for 10 minutes before venipunctureat the site of venipuncture. The control group had venipuncture without LOCAL HEATING. Severity pain casuded by INTERAVENOUS CANNULATION in two groups measured by Visual Analogue Scale. Data were compared by independent sample t-test.Results: Average pain caused by the intravenous cannulation between intervention and control groups respectively was 4.2±1.4 and 5.2±2 score that were significant statistically (p<.050).Conclusion: LOCAL HEATING can be used in venipuncture OVERWEIGHT patients to decrease severity pain casuded by INTERAVENOUS CANNULATION in patients.
