Abstract

Physicians are at risk for exposure to infectious agents from a variety of sources throughout their workday. Their impact cannot be underestimated, but it remains clear that with simple INFECTION control procedures and universal precautions such as the use of gloves, masks, and frequent hand washing, dermatologists can protect themselves from most of these risks. The use of thoughtful surgical technique, and practice of laser safety techniques such as the use of an evacuator, are simple to apply and are high yield in terms of peace of mind and decreasing infectious risks. Preventive strategies provide dermatologists with the safest working environment to care effectively and efficiently for all of their patients.
