Abstract

AKHBARYYAH is the name of a religious movement which dominated over the Shiite ideology from 9th to 11th centuries. In different fields of religious sciences, they held challenging beliefs especially in the matter of faith and jurisprudence. They rejected all other forms of beliefs and consider their beliefs as pure Islamic beliefs. They also attribute Shiite greate mediaeval scholars to themselves. This paper is an attempt to study the origin, GROWTH and continuity of this movement descriptively and analytically. This movement can be divided into six period, the course of first manifestation, extremism, moderation, decline and revival. AKHBARYYAH with reference to a group which consider a very important role to hadith in Islamic sciences was established in the era of Sheikh Sadugh (d.381 A.H) but this movement in the era of MOHAMMAD AMIN ASTRABADI (d.1036 A.H) renewed. The decline of this movement occurred in the rea of vahid Bihbahani (d.1205A.H). The school of AKHBARYYAH after its decline transformed into new AKHBARYYAH. Its outstanding characteristics are as below: Ihtiate (in jurisprudence) theology discussions, books with the title" Tib al-quran" (a medical book according to the quranic teachings). Compilation of collections of hadith, writing in the different fields of Islamic sciences and adaptability of their beliefs with populace are the most important factors which caused its continuity.
