Abstract

Hadith in the process of transmission to the next generation has been exposed to varieus damages. In the fields of religious studies especially hadith, scholars try to eliminate these damages. One of these damages is distortion which refers to any changes in the meaning or words of hadith. This phenomenon necessitates the provision of a method in examining and emendation of hadith. Hence, the paper argues the concept of distortion its kinds, causes and consequences descriptively and analytically. The main damages are ambiguity, inconsistency, different versions and semantical changes. Scholars of hadith should use some kind of intertextuality method in order to examine and amend the hadith.
