Abstract

Iran and China have great potential for bilateral relations. This has special role in recent foreign policy of Iran. Mutual interests in foreign policy, economic, military and energy cooperation’s are among the most integrating factors for both countries. On the other side, china’s STRATEGIC CHOICE and Chinese-Western, particularly American, method of cooperation has an important role in Chinese Iranian relations. Trying to find the effect of such STRATEGIC CHOICE on Iran-Chinese relations, the authors have used the views of the related experts among diplomats, academicians, and those working in the bilateral economic and military relations. By distributing questionnaire among a sample of 123 out of 180 of such experts, the findings explore the fact that China have relied basically on the policy of the SOFT BALANCE in its relation toward the US and Iran. On such basis, we should not expect that Iran-China cooperation goes beyond limited military relations, economic exchange, INTELLIGENT DIPLOMATIC COORDINATION, and cooperation in international and regional organizations, all of them parts of the SOFT BALANCE strategy of foreign policy.
