Abstract

Each year, many earthquakes and losses in the world, especially in developing countries, are caused by an earthquake that affects not only physical and physical infrastructure in earthquake areas, but also affects the social structures of those areas. Since risk management in urban planning has a special significance and place to reduce the volume of human and environmental damage caused by natural and human hazards, assessing the vulnerability of cities to these hazards from different dimensions, as One of the determinants of risk can be the reduction of physical, economic and social damage caused by such incidents. Considering the role played by social factors in reducing and increasing the effects of natural hazards, this paper focuses on social vulnerability as an aspect of urban vulnerability to earthquakes, due to lack of sufficient statistics and information. And the complexity of social factors in studies of urban vulnerability to natural hazards has been underestimated. In order to test the hypothesis, in the framework of the research method, data were collected using a statistical sampling of 385 households using a cluster-systematic sampling method. For data analysis, Pearson and Spearman correlation and multiple regression were used. The results show that about 32. 6 percent of the residential areas in the 14th district of Tehran have a high vulnerability and 39. 8 percent have moderate vulnerability and only 27. 5 percent of them have low vulnerability to earthquake.
