Pages

  126-148

Abstract

One of the significant Problems in the philosophy of religion is the problem of GOD, the attributes of GOD, and arguments for the existence of GOD. The diversity of opinion about the nature of GOD has been remarkable from a historical viewpoint. Epistemological turn in MODERN PHILOSOPHY, and look at the world from “agent” view and explanation the world in “object” framework and the dominance of thoughts that gave priority to agent influenced the altitude of human being concerning GOD. we can express that the opinions of philosophers and scientists have been various and sometimes contradictory about the concept of GOD. Modern human emphasized empirical sciences in the light of changing the world that one of its results was the rising of different thought about GOD.Moreover, the negation and affirmation of GOD have absolutely depended upon hisunderstanding from GOD.Descartes’ GOD was in accordance with his mechanical world in which every thing was explained by the geometric properties of space and the physical rules of motion, rather than in proportion to christian GOD. SPINOZA’s GOD was an absolutely infinite being or substance that His essence required His existence. So, He was a natural agent that the universe has necessarily resulted from Him.Leibniz’s GOD was like divine clockmaker that he was under the command of moral necessity compelled to create the best possible universe. However, KANT’s GOD was not knowable and needed not to prove His existence with theoretical reason. KANT introduced GOD as the guarantor of moral system. And maintained that moral life accepts the existence of GOD as a postulate. The present article deals with the elucidating the difference of the conceptualization of GOD in the Middle Ages and modern times that is due to the attitude of thinkers to this universe, the present article deals with the problem of GOD in DESCARTES, SPINOZA, LEIBNIZ, and KANT’s philosophy and showing their conceptualization of GOD, explains their approach to ONTOLOGICAL ARGUMENT in three realms of affirmation, corroboration, and negation.
