Abstract

This study aims to investigate the effectiveness of existential group therapy on purpose in life in women with dependent personality disorder. A pretestposttest design with a 2-month follow up was used in this study. Statistical population included all female clients came to a private psychology office in Tehran in 2015. Thirty female participants were selected through purposive sampling by using the Millon Clinical Multi-axial 3 questionnaire and clinical interview; subsequently the subjects were asked to complete the Crombaugh & Maholic purpose in life questionnaire. ANCOVA analysis results showed the effectiveness of existential group therapy on purpose in life in women with dependent personality disorder; moreover, the changes in the treatment group remained stable during the follow-up. 42. 8% of the purpose in life variance is explainable by existential group therapy. Therefore, the use of the existential elements in group therapy especially in women with dependent personality disorder can be considered as an effective therapy factor.
