Abstract

The "cope" is a cognitive and behavioral effort to overcome or minimize the stress and in the field of drug addiction, the Coping strategies of addicts have been investigated in various domestic and foreign researches. The aim of the present study was to compare Coping strategies between the women with substance abuse and healthy women in Bandar Abbas. This study was conducted with the sample consisting of one hundred and twenty subjects (60 addicted females and 60 matched healthy females) in 2014-2015. The research design is descriptive (survey). Carver, Shire and Vintrope's Coping strategies, Inventory (1989) was used with 72 questions and the reliability and validity of it had been calculated to be 0. 63 to 0. 95. The statistical tests used, were two independent samples t-tests. The findings indicated a significant difference between the two groups' Coping strategies at a significance level of 0. 01. The mean score of addicts group in each 4-of Coping strategies (strategies focused on problem solving, emotionfocused, less effective and ineffective) was different from the peer groups' mean score and using independent T-test, this difference was found statistically significant in four categories of Coping strategies-both at P<0. 05 and P<0. 01 levels. So addicted women compared with non-addicted women use less from Coping strategies focused on problem solving and use more less emotion-focused, ineffective and inefficient strategies.
