Abstract

SOCIAL CAPITAL, as a sociological concept which implies on the quality of social relations and interactions, has been the center of attention of many scholars and research institutes for decades. A part of this attention relates to this question that what is the role of external factors in preservation or destruction of SOCIAL CAPITAL. It seems that in a mediated world which the mass media forms a part of life reality of the today societies, some media like radio and, especially, television are likely to have a role in preserving or declining the SOCIAL CAPITAL. For this purpose, the aim of the present research is to investigate and identify the role of radio and television broadcasts (including news or other programs, as a resource for learning and SOCIALIZATION), in strengthening the SOCIAL CAPITAL among the youths (aged between 15 and 24), residing in Tehran. This research is a survey one and consists of 400 participants. Correlational relations (descriptive and inferential statistics) were used for analyzing data. The findings revealed that there is a meaningful relation between SOCIAL CAPITAL among the youth and learning from the radio and television broadcasts.
