Abstract

Introduction: The effect of COGNITIVE EXHAUSTION on CONFORMITY has been studied in this research.Method: For this purpose 45 university students through a cluster sampling were selected and randomly allocated to in three groups (n. of each group=15). The research consisted of two stages: In the first stage, the group one was exposed to solvable cognitive problems and the group two with unsolvable problems. Group three as control group didn't attended in this stage. In the second stage, all groups were tested in Asch's basic CONFORMITY experiment.Results: The results through one-way analysis of variance showed a significant difference in degree of CONFORMITY between groups (p<0.001). Also data were analyzed by Tukey post hoc test and indicated that group one's degree of CONFORMITY (exposed to solvable cognitive problems) was lower than control group and group two's degree of CONFORMITY (exposed to unsolvable cognitive problems) was higher than control group (p<0.001).Conclusions: The implications of these results are discussed with respect to cognitive essence of CONFORMITY and self-control influence on social perception.
