Abstract

This paper aims to study the relationship between urban design quality, CRIME and the SENSE OF SECURITY in Khorramabad's pavements. The research hypotheses have been formulated on the bases of theories of Hiller, Rodgers, Jacobs, Galen and Madanipoor. The research is a quantitative and cross-sectional one which is within micro sociology level. 361 subjects were selected as the sample, using a classified sampling technique. The data were collected by questionnaires and were analyzed using the spss software. To examine the relationship between variables, the chi-square test and cramer's V coefficients, gamma, kendall's tau-b and spearman correlation coefficient were used. Findings show that there is an adverse relationship between the possibility of committing a CRIME and the SENSE OF SECURITY. Also, a significant relationship was observed between urban design quality and the possibility of occurrence of CRIME. Comparing the impact of urban design quality and the occurrence of CRIME, the variable CRIME has a stronger relationship with the SENSE OF SECURITY.
