Title

Saudi Arabia and the Concept of Barring Iran's Power in the Middle East (A Case Study of Yemen's Developments)

Pages

  117-142

Abstract

Iran and Saudi Arabia are considered to be two regional rivals in history. Saudi diplomacy and foreign policy are heavily influenced by the ideology of Wahhabism and oil and are therefore extremely concerned about Iran's growing influence in the region. Saudi Arabia has tried and will try to eliminate Iran from the new equations developed in the region in any way possible and to minimize its role. Yemen is one of the most important of these areas. Where Saudi Arabia sees it as its backyard. Saudi Arabia has considered the repression of Ansar Allah and Shiite groups in Yemen as a direct threat from the Islamic Republic of Iran and has addressed military confrontation. The main question is that Saudi Arabia has taken a policy to block Iran's power in the region, especially in Yemen? Our hypothesis is that the Saudis, in order to prevent the overthrow of the Yemeni transformation to their eastern borders, are aimed at keeping the Shiites away from sources of power, in such a way as to expand their sphere of regional influence. While Iran, with the spiritual and political support of Ansarullah and the Yemeni revolutionaries, has tried to change the balance of regional power in its favor. The methodology of this research is descriptive-analytic and it has been tried to investigate this issue based on the Threat balance theory.
