Abstract

The purpose of this research is to study comparatively the NEWS COVERAGE of Persian website of AL-ALAM concerning the events of BAHRAIN and SYRIA in the time period which is known as "Arab Spring" or "Islamic Awakening". This study has applied qualitative content analysis method and Purposive sampling of consecutive-days, and also "news" as its analysis unit.Findings of this study display that BAHRAIN's events had a significantly more NEWS COVERAGE than SYRIA's, yet the SYRIAn government had a significantly more positive coverage than the government of BAHRAIN. Moreover, by focusing the news rate of each country, orientation and agenda-setting of the site as well as the use of lexicon, presuppositions, implications, frames, images and stereotypes, this research has come to the point that the above mentioned website provides a positive mindset of BAHRAINi opposition and protests, and on the other hand forms negative images of SYRIAn opposition and protests.
