Title

CORRELATION OF IGE PRESENCE AND CONCENTRATION WITH THE SIZE OF CHRONIC PERIAPICAL LESIONS IN HUMAN

Pages

  62-67

Abstract

Chronic dental PERIAPICAL lesions are inflammatory reactions against microorganisms. During this reaction alveolar bone resorption occurs. As factors of immune system are seen in PERIAPICAL lesions, this system should therefore be considered as responsible in pathogenesis of these lesions. Due to the PRESENCE of large amount of histamine and mast cells a this research was planned to determine any correlation between IGE and the size of CHRONIC periodical lesion.A group of 50 CHRONIC PERIAPICAL lesions in 50 individuals were selected which were subsequently divided into two groups. The first group with radiographic diameter of ≤ 5 mm (Small lesions or control group) and second group with radiographic diameter of the lesion being more than 10 mm (Large lesions or case group). PRESENCE and average CONCENTRATION of IGE in large lesions were found to be at %69.2 and 19.9±24.01 IU/ml. These amounts were 60% and 6.32±8.08 IU/ml in small lesions, respectively. Using Chi square and t test, statistically no significant difference was found between two groups with regard to IGE PRESENCE while a statistically significant difference was found between two groups with regard to IGE CONCENTRATION (P<0.01). It is concluded that with enlargement of CHRONIC PERIAPICAL lesions, there is some increase in the amount of bacterial allergens released, which in turn results in an increase in IGE CONCENTRATION. This could lead to type- I hypersensitivity reaction (allergy).
