Abstract

Aim: The purpose of this study was to determine the PREVALENCE of SOFT TISSUE lesions among denture wearers and determine the relationship between this PREVALENCE and age, sex, duration of wearing denture, denture teeth, occlusal balance.The studied lesions include inflammatory papillary hyperplasia, inflammatory fibrous hyperplasia, traumatic ulcer, denture stomatitis, angular cheillitis and flabby ridges.Materials and Methods: This study was a cross-sectional investigation with cluster random sampling. 350 denture wearers living in 5 different portions in the city of Hamedan were interviewed and clinically examined.Results: The total frequency of SOFT TISSUE lesions was 78.8% in all 350-denture wearers. The most frequent lesion was inflammatory fibrous hyperplasia (26.8%) and the lowest was angular cheillitis (2%).Conclusion: The result of this study indicated a correlation between non academic clinician, non occlusal balance, porcelain teeth, decreased and increased vertical dimension, overextention of flange, incorrect habits, poor denture hygiene and frequency of SOFT TISSUE lesions.
