Abstract

Background: ODONTOGENIC INFECTIONs have a high prevalence requiring rapid diagnose is and treatment.Aims: This study was carried out to evaluate the KNOWLEDGE, ATTITUDE and PRACTICE of dentists in relation to ODONTOGENIC INFECTIONs at a group of private clinics in Tehran during the year 1999.Materials and Methods: This descriptive study was performed on 79 dentists taken in a systematic sampling method. The prepared questionnaire consisted of three parts, including KNOWLEDGE, ATTITUDE and PRACTICE subjects.Dentists who answered only 1-3 of 8 questions correctly, were comprised as low score group, while those who answered 4-6 questions formed moderate and those who answered 7-8 questions were comprised as the high score group.Results: Findings of this investigation revealed that 74% of samples were placed at low grade, 33% at moderate grade and only 3% of them at high grade group for their KNOWLEDGE assessment these data were at 59% for low score group, 37% for moderate and 4% for high score group when PRACTICE was measured.Conclusion: Developing training programs and extra education materials on ODONTOGENIC INFECTIONs are useful in improving KNOWLEDGE and PRACTICE of the general dental practitioners.
