Title

THE EFFECT OF DENTIN ADHESIVES ON FRACTURE RESISTANCE OF ROOT TREATED TEETH RESTORED WITH AMALGAM

Abstract

Background: There are still unclear points to indicate universally acceptable system for restoration of pulpless TEETH.Aims: This study was performed to evaluate the effect of dentine bonded bases beneath amalgam on the FRACTURE RESISTANCE of endodontically treated TEETH.Materials and Methods: Seventy five sound maxillary premolar TEETH were subjected to RCT associated with an MOD cavities preparation. Specimens were initially divided in to five groups as follows:a- Unrestored TEETH as control group.b- Restored only with amalgam.c- Restored with composite resin with dentin bonding agent as base and these amalgam on top.d- Restored with compoglass as an adherent base and then amalgam.e- Restored with zinc phosphate cement as a non adherent base and amalgam. The thickness of the base was arranged in a way to allow a 2-3 mm thickness for amalgam. All restored specimens were subjected to an instron universal testing machine. Results: FRACTURE RESISTANCE of the first and second groups showed no significant differences, statistically. Conclusion: The use of dentin bonding agent (D.B.A) and composite resin as an adherent base beneath amalgam, increases the FRACTURE RESISTANCE of endodontically treated TEETH.
