Abstract

 Background & Aim: Study of Correspondence of CLINICAL DIAGNOSIS with histopathologic diagnosis for consideration of rate of dentists' and students' knowledge from clinical features of oral lesions and accordingly, differential diagnosis of those, has special importance. Therefore, this study was performed in patients referring to oral pathology department of Isfahan Dental School from 1370 to 1379.Method &Material: The study, was descriptive retrospective study on 745 patients from archive of oral pathology department of dentistry school of Isfahan university of medical sciences from 1370 to 79 for ascertainment of rate of frequency of correspondence of CLINICAL DIAGNOSIS with histopathologic diagnosis of oral lesions.Results: Correct CLINICAL DIAGNOSIS according to the first primacy diagnosis has been 57% and second primacy, 10.4% of course, 58% of cases were without second CLINICAL DIAGNOSIS, and 4.5% were without CLINICAL DIAGNOSIS. The most of correct CLINICAL DIAGNOSIS has been in the seventh decade of life (81.6%) and the least of that was in the second decade of life (52.5%). Correct CLINICAL DIAGNOSIS in the men was 65.6% and in the women 67.9%.The most of correct CLINICAL DIAGNOSIS has been in the lip (85.4%) and the least of correct CLINICAL DIAGNOSIS has been in the palate (53%). Correct CLINICAL DIAGNOSIS in the benign lesions was 67% and the malignant lesions, 58.5%.Correct CLINICAL DIAGNOSIS in the prominent lesions has been 72.5%, flat lesions 58%, smooth surface lesions 69.2%, irregular surface lesions 69.4%, verrucous lesions 67.5%, ulcerative lesions 69.5%, fir, lesions 76.7%, soft lesions 64.8% and intraosseous lesions 63%. Correct CLINICAL DIAGNOSIS in the lesions that are concolourous with mucosa was 70%, white lesions 66.6%, red and red-blue lesions 68%, black-brown-blue lesions 72.3%, white-red lesions 63.6% and yellow lesions 50%.Conclusion: Correct CLINICAL DIAGNOSIS in old ages was more than other ages, probably because of missing of teeth. Also, prominent lesions more than flat lesions, and lip lesions more than other anatomic lesions had been diagnosed correctly.
