Abstract

In the recent years, many efforts have been done to improve socioeconomic indices. Recently researchers use compound socioeconomic indexes rather than single indexes. The purpose of this study was to assess socioeconomic status of the provinces from the education, income, housing, occupation and employment dimension, therefore scores of socioeconomic indices has been calculated for all the provinces in the 2011 census by using the principal component analysis. The results indicate that in 2011 census Tehran is the most advantageous province in all socio-economic indices. Sistan and Baluchestan in the Index of Relative Socio-Economic Disadvantage and Index of Relative Socio-Economic Advantage and Disadvantage is the most disadvantaged province in the census of 2011. The most disadvantaged province in the Index of Economic Resources is Chahar Mahal and Bakhtiari in the census and Kurdistan is considered as the most disadvantaged province in the Index of Education and Occupation in the 2011 census.
