Abstract

 One of the guidelines that usually considered in the field of road safety management is THE STRATEGY OF ROAD SAFETY IMPROVEMENT from the aspects such as infrastructure and equipment. This strategy can be formulated to enhance the road safety situation and reduce the accidents rate at a specific period of time. The aim of the present study is to evaluate and prioritize the determined SHORT-TERM OBJECTIVES in order to improve road safety. For this purpose, we have used an integrated model of linear programming and fuzzy SAW TECHNIQUEs. At first, we considered five criteria affecting the evaluation of objectives and then we obtained the weights of these criteria by using a linear programming model. In the next stage, because of being qualitative criteria, each of objectives has been evaluated by fuzzy numbers regarding these five criteria. Finally, after converting fuzzy numbers to crisp numbers (defuzzification process), we evaluated and prioritized above-mentioned objectives using SAW TECHNIQUE. Regarding selected criteria, this study represents that some objectives have the most priority for implementation. These objectives are: "inserting or repairing the security guards and standard bumpers in the center and sides of roads", "inserting rumble stripes on the roads' asphalt", "installing the speedometer cameras in roads" and "Securing intersections with sufficient signs, lights and signals".
