Abstract

Introduction: The aim of this research is to study the effect of communication skills and religion-based problem-solving approach on marital satisfaction of women contemplating divorce. Method: A pre-test on marital satisfaction was performed on married women in Ahwaz Counselling Center. Of the women whose marital satisfaction scores were one standard deviation below the mean, 30 were selected. The selected women were of similar age, education, socioeconomic background, duration of marriage, and were also similar in other criteria described in the questionnaire. They were divided into control and experiment groups. The experiment group participated in eight sessions (90 minutes each) of learning communication and religion-based problem-solving training, and the control group did not receive any intervention. The post-test was performed after three months and data were analyzed. Results: There is a statistically significant difference between pre and post-test in the experiment group (p<0. 01). These results show that learning communication skills significantly impacted marital satisfaction in married women. Conclusion: Learning communication and religion-based problem-solving techniques has the ability to positively impact the marital satisfaction in married women.
