Title

COMPARING THE EFFECTS OF WILLIAMS' EXERCISES AND A SELECTED HYDROTHERAPY PROGRAM ON LUMBAR LORDOSIS AND PAIN INTENSITY OF FEMALE STUDENTS

Pages

  11-21

Abstract

Lumbar curvature is one of the sensitive parts of the spinal cord and one of its important and common complications is spinal injury. The aim of present study is to compare the effect of Williams' exercise and a selected HYDROTHERAPY program on the intensity of female students' back PAIN and lordosis. Sixty-five participants (22 in each experimental groups and 21 in control group, age range 18-25) were voluntarily taken part in the study. Under the supervision of experimenter the Williams' exercise and HYDROTHERAPY groups performed a 12 week training program (3 sessions each week) and their back PAIN severity and lordosis angle were evaluated using Quebec questionnaire and flexible cruller. One-way ANOVA and multiple-analysis of variance were used for the analysis of data. The comparison of analysis showed a significant difference between the two methods (p£0.0001), the decrement of lumbar PAIN (p£0.0001) and lordosis angle (p£0.006) in both experimental groups showed a significant difference following post-operative intervention. In control group no significant difference was seen for the first and second pre-post-test data. Therefore, for lowering the severity of back PAIN and correcting LUMBAR LORDOSIS HYDROTHERAPY and Williams' exercises are recommended, respectively. However, for simultaneous complications of hyperlordosis and lumbar PAIN absolutely none of the methods were used. Hence the recovery of the condition depends on the right selection and also time of the exercises and the correction by each method requires specific qualifications that the specialists deal with.
