ANALYSIS OF “ZABANE FARSI” BOOK SERIES BASED ON CULTURAL SEMIOTICS

Abstract

 The present study analyzes the education and culture in “Persian Language”, the book series authored by Ahmad Saffar Moghaddam. To do so, Tartu-Moscow’s approach to CULTURAL SEMIOTICS was employed as theoretical framework in which, concepts such as semiosphere, text, center and periphery. In addition, the present study is an attempt to introduce a theoretical framework in which teaching language is considered as a dialogue between two cultures, also it tries to clarify the formation of semiosphere of the new language within the semiosphere of the “their” language with regard to absorbing capacity of language codes, grounds for progressive growth and relative independence of the semiosphere in producing texts and communicative dialogue. Furthermore, using ‘CULTURAL SEMIOTICS approach’ the representation of clothing, food, place and gender codes in interacting with cultural “self” and “other” in selected books as well as orientation, repetition, presence and absence of subjects and sufficiency were analyzed. Findings showed that representations in book series of “Farsi Language” were not consistent with interactive approach of cultural “self” and “other” and the dialogism of language and culture.
